The Vine Preschool at St James, Alexandria

My daughter has been going to the Vine for almost a year, and she loves it. Not only is the staff very friendly, they are also held to a high standard by the owner. They are required to complete well above the Virgina state minimum for teaching courses, which is evident based on how well they teach, play, guide, and interact with the children. The facility has a welcoming atmosphere and is cleaned daily. The staff sends multiple photos and videos everyday, which ensures you are aware of how your child's day is going. The Vine also has several optional classes and programs you can choose to sign your child up for. This gives them the flexibility to try out different activities while also continuing to build friendships with their fellow Vine classmates. The staff is very responsive, and they typically respond to a parents message very quickly and thoughtfully. All the other families that go there are very nice too, and overall the Vine does a great job of creating a welcoming community that your child can learn and thrive in.

The Vine Preschool at St. James has been a second home to all three of our children! I cannot recommend Kim, Gloria, and their staff enough. All of my children run to the front door and are always so excited for their day. I truly feel that this place set my oldest son up for success when he transitioned to Kindergarten. The staff communicates quickly and efficiently- letting parents know what is happening during their child's day. If you are looking for an excellent daycare/preschool in the Alexandria area, you have just found it!

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at The Vine Preschool at Saint James. From the very first day, the teachers and staff have been welcoming, caring, and attentive to our child’s needs. The teachers provided personalized attention, and the curriculum is both engaging and enriching. Our child has shown so much growth socially and academically, thanks to the thoughtful and structured activities planned each day. We especially appreciate the school’s emphasis on kindness, creativity, and learning through play. The facilities are clean, safe, and well-equipped, making it a fantastic environment for young children. I highly recommend The Vine Preschool at the St James. The staff is wonderful, the facility is super clean, and just overall the experience for my daughter has been amazing. I struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety that made it incredibly hard to trust anyone with my daughter. I looked for solutions to continue to work a full time job and provide a loving, nurturing environment for my daughter. The Vine Preschool at the St James has made me feel so comfortable, warm, and that I could put my full trust in the staff to be a loving, nurturing figures in my daughter’s life. We are so happy with our experience and feel incredibly grateful that we have such a wonderful school to send our daughter.

The Vine Preschool has been my daughter’s safe haven and has eased my mama heart in our transition to daycare. I have had two kids now at St James and cannot recommend it enough! They truly are passionate and caring individuals. We initially were waitlisted for another school and when we were finally offered a spot, we knew there was no way we were changing. We have been here over two years and most certainly would recommend it.

It is kid friendly, welcoming, and above all very clean. They offer power tots during the day once a week which has been such a wonderful opportunity for my child. They love it and it has helped with development as well. We also appreciate the meals offered. It makes our lives so much easier. The academic activities are also great for child development. Finally, the app for getting updates throughout provides such peace of mind especially for infants. I switched my son to the Vine Preschool at St James after we had some issues with potty training at his old daycare. The teachers helped my son adjust to the school but also helped him get potty trained pretty quickly. I like the fact that meals are provided at a decent rate and they also provide gymnastics class once a week.

We switched our daughter to The Vine at 15 months after having her enrolled at a separate day care center in Old Town, and from the start the transition was amazing! The staff guided not just her, but also us parents through the transition. 10 months later and we could not be happier with our choice to switch to The Vine. We look forward to enrolling our next child in the infant class. You can’t beat this neighborhood daycare!

We recently joined The Vine Preschool for our 7 month old son, and I can't say enough good things about them! As a new mom, I was very nervous about sending my son somewhere. Kim and her teachers made me feel comfortable from the moment we took our tour. They have been extremely responsive & helpful throughout the transition. My son absolutely adores them & has so much fun throughout the day. We are connected to an app where we get regular pictures & updates that make my day while I am at work. If you're looking for a daycare in the Ft. Hunt / Mt. Vernon area, I would highly recommend them!

Our daughter loves The Vine and all the amazing teachers and director. We were nervous parents sending her to daycare but The Vine has been such a great fit for our family.

My daughter has been going to The Vine Preschool for six months and I couldn't be happier! She loves going to school everyday! The staff is very professional and incredibly dedicated. As a result, my daughter continues to develop socially and academically. The Vine Preschool provides a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment. The teachers keep me updated regularly and have made my experience incredibly positive! They offer academic rigor and challenge my daughter to go above and beyond. As an educator myself this is something I look for. We are so happy to be a part of The Vine Preschool family.

This PreSchool is awesome! They have an amazing group of providers. The admin staff is knowledgeable, patient & bilingual. There is a great multicultural vibe amongst the staff & children. The fee is comparable to the other schools in the neighborhood. However, this location operates 0600-1800. So that was the extra bonus for my family & work schedule.

My daughter has been going to The Vine Preschool, St. James location, since she was 12 weeks old. We toured several places and were impressed with how happy all the children of all ages were that day. After a few weeks of her attendance, my guilt of having to go back to work was gone. My daughter was clearly enjoying “going to school” and getting to experience new things and developmental activities while making friends. There has been a steady stream of art work, photos and videos sent over the years as well as sharing of exciting milestones. There is a nice balance of fun and structure in each day and the staff clearly love children. The staff and director, Kim, have been instrumental in my daughter’s development into the happy, caring, respectful, very smart, 2 year old she is today. Kim has been wonderful in offering advice and sharing stories from not only an educator’s point of view, but also as parent herself. We feel very lucky to have found The Vine Preschool!

I can't even begin to describe how thankful my husband and I are for The Vine Preschool. We are pretty new to Virginia and have had a few horrible experiences with some local child care providers (both home care and centers). We currently live in Arlington and gladly make a minimum 30 minute drive (one way) to get to The Vine Preschool. I love how Kim and her staff put you at ease! The last thing you want is to be at work worrying about your children. My husband and I were able to meet with Kim and observe her "classroom" (it really is a wonderful learning environment) before we enrolled our son. As you can imagine we were a little apprehensive, but our initial visit put us at ease. We received pictures and videos of our son's first day and continue to get pictures on a regular basis. We recently had another baby that now attends, and I have to say that it seems as though Kim and her team personally cater to each and every child, giving them all the love and attention they need. My son was a bit of an introvert when he first started, he is now incredibly comfortable and loves to participate in all of the activities. I really appreciate the structure and curriculum that is provided. Kim is able to teach each child at their own pace according to their level. She is very knowledgeable and I often ask for her advice not only as a provider but as a parent. I know that once its time for both of my children to move on to public school they will be more than ready!! Completely Satisfied!!

The Vine staff consistently go above and beyond when taking care of our children! They update us regularly with pictures, texts, and stories of what has taken place during the day. They have taught our children how to be kind, caring, and thoughtful and have more than prepared our son for kindergarten. Our daughter has to say goodbye to everyone—adult and child—before she leaves each day. I cannot imagine a better place for children to be if they can’t be at home. Kim and the rest of The Vine Preschool staff are hands-down the best!

We were with The Vine for almost two years and we absolutely loved it. My daughter is starting Kindergarten this year and I have no doubt that she is ready! The curriculum is amazing and my daughter has learned so much. My son was in the center from the time he was 9 months old until now at 2.5, and the staff cared for him as if he were their own. I never doubted that my children were in the absolute best hands. I highly HIGHLY recommend The Vine if you are looking for caring teachers in a robust learning environment!

We have been a part of The Vine Preschool family for over 5 years and it's truly been a wonderful experience. As new parents we were so anxious about finding just the right caregivers for our newborn son. We did a lot of research, interviewed nannies, visited centers and numerous home day cares. We initially chose a center but I wasn't confident that it was the place so I continued to look. Somehow I'd missed The Vine Preschool in my initial search. Thankfully, Kim's website gave me the information I needed to know about who she was and what her background was. Her background helped me know that she would be more than a babysitter, she would educate my child. Kim opened her doors for me to visit one afternoon and I knew right away that this was where my little guy should be. The environment was welcoming and it clear that the children loved Kim and her assistant and that the feeling was mutual. It wasn't easy leaving my son that first day but Kim put me at ease. She reminded me that she has an open door policy so I could visit any time; which I did many times at the beginning. My son flourished at The Vine Preschool. Both his emotional and educational needs were met in age appropriate and positive ways. He went off to junior kindergarten ready to listen, learn and play. He continues to love Ms. Kim and excitedly shares details about his life as a kindergartner when he sees her. 3 years into our time with Kim, there was no doubt that our little girl would attend The Vine Preschool. She's now 2.5 and loves her teachers, friends and school. She requires speech therapy and Kim is more than happy to support her by welcoming the therapist twice a month. She's great about communicating our daughter's successes and areas for improvement. We're so happy to have found The Vine Preschool! Its role in our lives has made being a dual working family so much easier. We routinely talk to others about what a great experience it's been and will most certainly shed tears when it's time for our daughter to move on to the next stage in her young life.

I am the proud mommy of an alumni "Kim's Kid". I love, love, love The Vine Preschool. My youngest son attended from 6 months old until he turned 4. This school was the best of all worlds, Noah was loved and nurtured as well as given a great education. I really appreciate the care and attention to detail that Kim and her staff take. Knowing how challenging traffic and commuting can be in the Metro DC area, I commuted from Woodbridge, VA to The Vine Preschool in Alexandria, VA to work in Maryland and back daily. I would do it again in heartbeat!!! There is is no short cut in my day that could measure up to the peace of mind I had knowing that my child was receiving the best care daily. Being an educator myself, I at times wonder if I have unrealistic expectations of what school and childcare should look like for my kids. But our experience at The Vine Preschool proved to me that excellence in care and education should be the expectation, not the exception. From an infant, Kim provided my family with developmental reports on how Noah was growing and learning. She also provided invaluable information on how we could use our time at home to create a learning continuum. I am a believer and advocate for small home learning environments, especially when children are young. It was a rare and awesome experience to find Kim and The Vine Preschool. Even to this day, I have a sense of "family" with the special group of people that we have been afforded the opportunity to share this very important time in our lives with. When people comment on how articulate and smart Noah is, I smile and remind myself it's because he was one of "Kim's Kids".
